Most energy efficient lights for your commercial outdoor lighting project

Every business venture is looking to minimize the expenses incurred every month so that they can have better profits. One way of ensuring that the business reduces expenses is by using energy efficient lights all around the business inside and also outside on the commercial landscaping Houston. Before engaging a lighting company for your commercial outdoor project it is important to know what code is required for the lighting project and ensure the safety of your employees and customers at night. Here are some of the most efficient lights for your commercial outdoor.

LED lights – LED means light emitting diodes. It is not a very new technology in lighting and one of the most efficient lighting technologies. It has been around for many years used in lighting TVs, Christmas lights, traffic signals and so many other appliances. The technology uses a P-N junction to light up the diodes.  It is until lately that LEDs have been made into bulbs and now they are available even as flood lights, spot lights and other high intensity lights that are suitable for use outdoor. An LED light emits light using a semiconductor other than a gas as in a fluorescent light. Though the lights could still be a little expensive they are now becoming a common technology and are being adopted by many. This is because a small wattage of LED lights produces a bright light which saves the customer on costs at the end of the day, covering the installation costs over time.

CFLs – CFL means compact fluorescent light. These are the common bulbs that are used by most people today. These bulbs are cheaper than LED lights and are able to produce bright light with little energy use. They are the replacement for the traditional incandescent bulbs which have been phased out in most countries for their high energy usage. The CFLs unlike the traditional fluorescent lights can screw into any kind of bulb holder available. They are expensive than the incandescent bulbs but they are a worthy investment in the long run because of the huge savings they bring. A 15 watt bulb for instance can produce light equivalent to that of a 100 watt incandescent bulb.  The CFLs work by using gases inside the tubes to produce UV light that excites the phosphor coating on the tubes to produce visible light.

Using these energy efficient lights coupled with sensors and controls can make the lighting really efficient and cost saving. For instance the lights could be used with motion sensors, occupancy sensors, timers, dimmers and other such controls. Adaptive lighting entails using the occupancy sensors especially where there isn’t so much traffic to make the lights shine bright when there are many people at that particular spot, otherwise the lights will stay dim.
